For Immediate Release:
Thoroughbred Athletes, Inc. HONORED AS 2014 TOP-RATED NONPROFITGreatNonprofits.org Award is based on Positive Online Reviews
Guthrie, Oklahoma - November 4, 2014 – Thoroughbred Athletes announced today that it has been honored with a prestigious 2014 Top-Rated Award by GreatNonprofits, the leading provider of user reviews about nonprofit organizations.
“We are excited to be named a Top-Rated 2014 Nonprofit,” says Lynn Sullivan, Founder and Director, of Thoroughbred Athletes. We are proud of our accomplishments this year, including Accreditation by the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance, Gold Status with GuideStar, and GiveSmart Oklahoma.
The Top-Rated Nonprofit award was based on the large number of positive reviews that Thoroughbred Athletes received – reviews written by volunteers, donors and clients. People posted their personal experience with the nonprofit. For example, one person wrote, “I truly believe that the thoroughbred racing industry in Oklahoma is so fortunate to have a facility such as this to aid in rehabilitating, retraining, and re-homing horses off the track. I have recommended the facility to other friends of mine who may be looking for horses in the future, and I feel so grateful that I have found such a wonderful place, doing such positive things for these great animals.”
While the Top-Rated Awards run through the end of October, Thoroughbred Athletes was part of the inaugural group to qualify for the year. In addition, we’ll been added to GreatNonprofits #GivingTuesday Guide—an interactive guide to top nonprofits throughout the years. Look for this near the holidays.
“Savvy donors want to see the impact of their donations more than ever,” said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits, “People with direct experience with Thoroughbred Athletes have voted that the organization is making a real difference.”
Being on the Top-Rated list gives donors and volunteers more confidence that this is a credible organization. The reviews by volunteers, clients and other donors show the on-the-ground results of this nonprofit. This award is a form of recognition by the community.
Thoroughbred Athletes is a 501c3 organization located in Guthrie, Oklahoma. We have achieved a Gold Participant rating on GuideStar; are registered with Give Smart Oklahoma; have been rated a 2014 Top Non-Profit by Great Non-Profits; and recently received accreditation from the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance.
Thoroughbred Athletes is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and retraining of Thoroughbred race horses after their career on the track is over. We receive horses from owners, trainers, as well as actively rescue horses from auctions and feedlots. We provide them with a new skill set that affords the opportunity for them to enjoy a successful new career in their new adoptive home.
Our unique youth program allows community youth to participate in the organization - encouraging them to become engaged in equestrian sports; teaching them horse handling techniques, care, and proper training methods; providing them with the skills to assist the horses to be the best that they can be. We firmly believe that such a program provides for the future of our horses, as we are molding the horsemen of tomorrow. We currently sponsor annual camps and other equestrian events to assist with their training and skill development. With your help we can provide these events for our equestrian youth more frequently through the year.

Thoroughbred Athletics has set the pace for Lynn Sullivan's life at a fast rate. For the past few years Lynn has been racing from auction to auction trying to save the lives of retired race horses, keeping them out of a slaughter house and back into a loving home.
The goal is to give these animals a second chance, whether it be with a new family, or serving as therapy horses.
With the help of volunteers, and some teenagers eager to learn the ropes, Sullivan has been able to save multiple lives and teach Guthrie teens responsibility in the process.
“I want to find someone a horse they can ride, use, and love and take care of,” Sullivan said.
Thoroughbred Athletics is a nonprofit organization that thrives on donations, but lately the boom is business has created a need for more funding and materials. “In the past two or three weeks, I have picked up eight horses, five of them already have homes.”
