Our Mission:

Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, retrain, and re-home off track thoroughbred horses, and afford community youth the opportunity to experience the process.

Why Volunteers Are Needed:

Volunteer time and talent is an asset to Thoroughbred Athletes, Inc.  There are many ways you can make a difference for the welfare of the horses.  You may wish to work directly with the horses or you may get involved with other important aspects of our organization such as fund raising, event coordination, or property maintenance.

Becoming a Volunteer:

Sign up to become a Thoroughbred Athletes, Inc. volunteer.  It’s easy!  The minimum requirements to be a Thoroughbred Athletes, Inc. volunteer are as follows:
•    Complete a Volunteer Application including initials & signatures where indicated
•    Participate in a Volunteer Orientation Class
•    Sign a liability release form
•    Review and agree to follow the Thoroughbred Athletes, Inc. rules
 
Barn Maintenance
 

All barn maintenance duties are handled by barn owner and volunteers.  These duties can be completed by persons with little horse experience.  Barn maintenance includes tasks such as:

  • Stall cleaning

  • Sweeping

  • Organizing and cleaning of tack and equipment

  • Filling water tanks and buckets

  • Mixing feed

  • Raking exercise machine

Horse Handling/Riding

Volunteers that are assigned direct contact with horses MUST have prior horse handling experience with references provided, or must have undergone a riding/handling training program through Thoroughbred Athletes, Inc.  These duties include:

 

  • Grooming

  • Exercising or Riding

  • Hand walking

  • Bathing

  • Moving horses
